Afroman, also known as Joseph Edgar Foreman, is an American artist, musician, comedian, and political activist born on July 28, 1974, in Los Angeles however he spent his early years in Mississippi before returning to South-Central Los Angeles. 

His musical career started in the eighth grade when he sold homemade songs to his classmates and in 1998, he released his first album, My Fro-losophy, which failed to gain much success. 

His career took a turn in 2000 with the release of the album Because I Got High, featuring the hit song of the same name. The song became a hit in late 2001 and was even nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2002.

After being successful he got signed to Universal Records where he released The Good Times in 2001, a compilation of his first two albums and new tracks and it also did well. 

Afroman relocated to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where he met Jody Stallone, Darrell Havard, and Tim Ramenofsky and this played a significant role in his musical success. He attributed his success to the willingness of mid-western and southern residents to experiment with their taste in music.
