Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ GHS25 million defamation lawsuit against Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong was unsuccessful.

Following the MP’s public broadcast of a documentary titled “Who Watches the Watchman” to expose alleged shady deals involving the journalist and his work, Anas in 2018 filed a lawsuit against the lawmaker for alleged defamation.

Anas was seeking GHS25million in damages and any other the court deemed fit.

The Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Eric Baah, ruled today, Wednesday, March 15, 2023, that the plaintiff, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, had failed to establish that Ken Agyapong had defamed him by airing the aforementioned documentary.

The court also ruled that Mr. Agyapong had presented enough proof to establish that the plaintiff had solicited funds from those involved in the evidence he had collected by using the findings of his research.

The court ruled that the evidence also showed that those who could pay Anas’ financial demands were exempted from the public viewing of videos.

The court concluded that what Anas is engaged in is not investigative journalism but rather investigative terrorism and that Agyapong was justified to call Anas “a blackmailer, corrupt, an extortionist, and evil”.

“I find the claims by the plaintiff [Anas Aremeyaw Anas) meritless and they are hereby dismissed” Justice Baah ruled.
