Historically, Christian Atsu passed away unexpectedly after a deadly 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook Turkey and Syria in February, 2023, with the southern city of Hatayspor being the worst-hit.
After 12 days of looking, the Ghanaian footballer’s body was found beneath the wreckage of his apartment.
Turkish Airlines returned his body to Ghana on February 19. Atsu, 31, participated in 65 games for the Black Stars and scored 19 goals.
He has also played for top European teams like Chelsea, FC Porto, and Newcastle. He played for Turkey’s Hatayspor team up until his passing, and members of that team are anticipated to attend the funeral.
