Following the arrest of the alleged major suspects in the killing of a soldier at Ashaiman in Accra, Sam Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, has praised the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

The 22-year-old soldier was killed at Sunyani in the Bono Region while serving with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, six major suspects were detained after a week of sustained intelligence gathering.

According to the police, they learned on March 4, 2023, that a male adult had been discovered deceased at Ashaiman Taifa in the Greater Accra Area.

The police claim that after confirming the occurrence and beginning an investigation into the circumstances behind the victim’s death, a team of police officers went to the specified site and made the six arrests.

In an interview with GHOne TV, the lawmaker claimed that the IGP and his forces should receive all the credit for discovering and apprehending the killers of the young soldier.

I am one who has been very critical of the Ghana Police led by Dampare but when they get it right I will commend and praise them and this is one instance where I will sing to the high praises the professional and diligence of our Ghana Police. Because I have also maintained that we have the finest Police Service in the whole of Africa in fact in the whole world.

Our Police Service is among the six or seven in the world that the United Nations (UN) accepts for Peacekeeping Operations. We’ve professional men and women in our Police Service when they want to work and when the political braze at the top of the Police Service allows them, they will do a fantastic job. This is one instance that they’ve done fantastic work,” Mr. Nartey George stated.

The payment of medical bills for Ashaiman citizens who were subjected to military brutality, according to Ashaiman’s MP Ernest Norgbe, has now become his responsibility.
