Forbes releases list of world’s top 10 highest-paid athletes

After signing a sizable contract with Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo has reclaimed the title of highest-paid athlete in the world.

The Portuguese superstar who left Manchester United last year made $136 million in the previous 12 months, according to Forbes’ annual list.

World Cup winner and Paris Saint-Germain player Lionel Messi came in second with earnings of $130 million. French star Kylian Mbappe took third place and received $120 million. The annual value of Ronaldo’s deal with Al Nassr is rumoured to be over 200 million euros.

Prior to Messi and Floyd Mayweather, the footballer was the highest-paid athlete in the world in 2017. Forbes’ rankings take into consideration both on-field earnings, such as salary, bonuses, and prize money, as well as off-field earnings, such as endorsement deals, appearance fees, and income from memorabilia and licensing.
