Gianni Infantino, born in Brig, Switzerland on March 23, 1970, was raised by Italian immigrant parents who ran a local restaurant. As a child, Infantino developed a passion for football and spent much of his childhood playing for local clubs in the Valais region of Switzerland, where he honed his skills.

In the early 1990s, Infantino began his career in football as a lawyer for UEFA, the administrative body for European football. He quickly climbed the ranks and was eventually appointed as the General Secretary of UEFA in 2009. During his tenure at UEFA, Infantino played a pivotal role in several key initiatives, including the creation of the UEFA Nations League and the expansion of the UEFA European Championship.

In 2016, Infantino succeeded Sepp Blatter to become the President of FIFA. He wasted no time in implementing much-needed reforms aimed at increasing transparency and accountability within the organization. Additionally, Infantino has been a vocal proponent of expanding the World Cup, and in 2019, FIFA announced that the tournament would be expanded to 48 teams starting from the 2026 edition.

Infantino’s accomplishments were recognized when he was re-elected as the President of FIFA for an additional four-year term, running unopposed at the congress of world football’s ruling body in 2023. He will remain at the helm of FIFA until 2027.
