Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE HonFREng is a British racing driver who currently races in Formula One for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.

Hamilton shares a record-tying seven Formula One World Drivers’ Championship triumphs with Michael Schumacher. Moreover, 103 victories, 103 pole positions, 191 podium places, and other records are held by him.

As the youngest driver ever employed by a Formula One team, Hamilton, who was born and raised in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, entered the McLaren young driver program in 1998 at the age of 13 and made history.

Hamilton won six straight championships while driving for McLaren from 2007 to 2012, making him the first black driver to ever race in the Formula One circuit. Hamilton accomplished a number of first-year firsts while trailing Kimi Räikkönen by one point in the championship.

The next year, after making a crucial overtake at the last corner of the season’s last race, he triumphed in spectacular manner to become the then-youngest Formula One World Champion in history. Following six years at McLaren, Hamilton agreed to a contract with Mercedes.

Hamilton went to The John Henry Newman School, a volunteer-run Catholic high school in Stevenage.

Hamilton claims that he began studying karate at the age of five in order to defend himself against bullying at school.

He was briefly suspended from school after being wrongly accused of punching a classmate who required medical attention.

He not only raced, but also played association football for his school team alongside future England star Ashley Young.

Hamilton, an Arsenal enthusiast, asserted that if Formula One had not worked out for him, he would have become a football or cricket player because he participated in both sports for his school teams.

In February 2001, he enrolled at Cambridge Arts and Sciences (CATS), a private sixth-form institution in Cambridge.
