Lewis Hamilton bio
Born on January 7, 1985, Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE HonFREng is a British racing driver who currently competes in Formula One for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.
With Michael Schumacher, Hamilton has a record-tying seven World Drivers’ Championship victories in Formula One. He also owns the records for the most victories (103), pole positions (103), podium finishes (191), and other statistics.
Hamilton, who was born and reared in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, enrolled in the McLaren young driver program at the age of 13 in 1998, making history as the youngest driver ever hired by a Formula One team.
Hamilton became the first ever black driver to compete in the Formula One series as a result, winning six consecutive seasons of racing with McLaren from 2007 to 2012. In his rookie season, Hamilton set multiple records as he finished runner-up to Kimi Räikkönen by one point.
The following year, he won his first title in thrilling fashion to become the then-youngest Formula One World Champion in history after making a critical overtaking at the final corner of the season’s final race. Hamilton signed a contract with Mercedes in 2013 following six years with McLaren.
Hamilton attended The John Henry Newman School, a Catholic secondary school in Stevenage that receives volunteer aid.
According to Hamilton, he started learning karate at the age of five in order to protect himself from bullying at school.
When he was falsely blamed for attacking a classmate who needed medical attention, he was also expelled from school for a while.
Along with playing association football for his school team with Ashley Young, a future England international, he also raced.
Since he played both sports for his school teams, Hamilton, an Arsenal supporter, claimed that if Formula One had not worked out for him, he would have become a football or cricket player.
He started attending Cambridge Arts and Sciences (CATS), a private sixth-form college in Cambridge, in February 2001.
