A 57-year-old man who spent nearly 34 years of his life in prison out of a 400-year sentence for suspected robbery has finally been released after the case was reviewed and significant errors were found.

Sidney Holmes was found guilty and given a prison term for robbing an automobile in 1988 near Fort Lauderdale, but on March 13, he left jail to reclaim his priceless freedom.
After he discovered a way to get in touch with the Broward State Attorney’s Office Conviction Review Unit while in custody to claim his innocence of the crime, the procedure leading to his exoneration and freedom began in 2020.
After that, the case was reviewed, and it was discovered that, despite having a strong alibi, his conviction was based on a biased witness identification process that was biased against his car and its focus.
The Broward County prosecutor’s office emphasized in a statement released on Monday that Holmes had been wrongfully imprisoned following his release from custody.
Holmes, now a free man, hugged his mother in front of the Broward County Main Prison and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to prove his innocence.
