Usman Baba was told to pack his bags and go to Kuje prison

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, or HURIWA, is happy that the court sentenced Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, to three months in jail.

The group praised the justice system for making a brave decision, saying that it shows that no one is above the law.

HURIWA pointed out that the Judiciary had used the judicial power given to it by Section (6) subsection (1) of the 1999 constitution in a legal way.

After he didn’t follow a court order from the Federal High Court, the Inspector General of Police was given a three-month prison sentence for contempt of court.

HURIWA said that the Federal High Court’s order must be followed right away. This means that the IGP should bring his prison bag straight to the prison in Kuje and turn himself in. In a statement to DAILY POST on Tuesday, it said, “He shouldn’t treat this court order with shame or disrespect.”

“We are asking President Muhammadu Buhari to hand over the IGP to the Federal Correctional Center in Kuje as soon as possible. If this court order is not followed to the letter, Nigeria will become a “banana republic.”
