What Are The Names of Angels In The Bible?
There are a lot of Angels in Heaven however, the Bible mentions only 4 names. Each type of Angel and what they do. The following are the names of angels mentioned in the Bible.
Angel Gabriel: Angel Gabriel appears 4 times in the Bible. He appeared to Daniel, Zechariah, and Mary. In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be (Luke 1:26-29).
Archangel Michael: Michael also appears 4 times in the Bible. He is known to engage in warfare and is the protector of God’s people. Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back (Revelation 12:7).
Lucifer: The original name for Satan is Lucifer. He used to be a powerful angel until fell as a result of pride. This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; …Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God… You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth (Ezekiel 28:12-19).
Abaddon (Apollyon): Abaddon is also another Angel mentioned in the Bible. And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit. Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth. They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon that is, Destroyer (Revelation 9:1-3,11).
Can Angels Be Worshipped?
The Bible forbids Christians from worshipping Angels. “Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind” (Colossians 2:18). Christians are also forbidden to pray through Angels. The Bible says in I Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.”
