Between the ages of 15 and 21, Cullen represented New Zealand internationally while playing hockey. Cullen was born in 1974 in Devonport, New Zealand.
She has a degree in kinesiology and health science. Cullen supported the British Olympic team, UK Athletics, the British triathlon team, and other business customers while working as a senior physiotherapist at the English Institute of Sport in London.
She worked with sprinters in the 100- and 200-meter distances as well as the 4 x 100-meter relay team, which went on to earn a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. In 2006, Cullen set out on a 155-mile-per-day bicycle journey from Tierra del Fuego to Colombia.
