Harriet Ruth Harman KC is a British politician and solicitor who has served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Camberwell and Peckham for over four decades. She comes from a family of professionals, with a doctor and a barrister as her parents. Harman received her education at the prestigious St Paul’s Girls’ School and later studied politics at the University of York.
After working for Brent Law Centre, she became a legal officer for the National Council for Civil Liberties. One of her significant achievements was taking the case, Harman v United Kingdom, to the European Court of Human Rights, where she successfully proved that a former Attorney General had breached her right to freedom of expression.
Harman has had a successful career in politics, holding various Cabinet and Shadow Cabinet positions under different leaders, including Tony Blair and John Smith. After the 1997 general election victory, she was appointed Secretary of State for Social Security and became the first ever Minister for Women.
She continued to climb the ranks and was appointed Solicitor General for England and Wales in 2001. In 2007, she was elected as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and held various leadership roles until 2015. Despite no longer being in a leadership role, she remains an active member of Parliament and continues to serve her constituents in Camberwell and Peckham.

Harriet Harman was married to a man named Jack Dromey. The two met while on the picket line of the Grunwick dispute in 1977, and got married in 1982 in Brent. Harman was serving as the legal advisor to the Grunwick Strike Committee at that time.
The couple had three children together: Harry, who was born in February 1983, Joseph, who was born in November 1984, and Amy, who was born in January 1987.
Sadly, on January 7th, 2022, Jack Dromey passed away due to heart failure in his flat in Birmingham. He was 73 years old at the time of his passing
