When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below. “Now then, please swear to me by the LORD that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will save us from death.”

The spies promised to save Rahab and her family after taking the city after escaping. Rahab ensured the safety of her and her family by extending a red cord from her window.

Rahab and her entire family were spared from the spies’ agreement and were counted among the Jewish people when the city of Jericho fell. She was a Canaanite as well, one of Israel’s bitter adversaries. Rahab’s most astounding act was really lying to protect two of Joshua’s spies.

Joshua appoints men to scout the area before the Israelites cross the Jordan. They make the decision to spend the night at the home of the prostitute Rahab after arriving in Jericho. Rahab hides them and then assists them in escaping through the window when the ruler of Jericho tries to capture them, saving their lives.
